About Us

The Green is a three-year community project (funded by the NSW state government’s Community Services, Dept of Family & Community Services) to demonstrate sustainable living practices. The grand dream for The Green includes:







  • eco-constructed gardens and structures (e.g. waterwise, permaculture, native and kids play areas) including worm farms
  • fauna friendly wetland/pond
  • native nursery for collection and propagation of local seed
  • shopfront/incubator for new green enterprises to showcase their ideas/innovations
  • community workshops and formal accreditedtraining in living GREEN
  • compost and mulch experiments and sale
  • community cafe/kiosk
  • artworks, mosaics, sculptures and lots of educational signage
  • eco-farming
  • alternative power generation (solar and wind turbines)
  • bike restoration
  • eco-tours
  • facilities for sports and hobbies and a place to play
  • e-waste facility
  • library (built from a restored shipping container)
  • chicken habitat
  • driver-training
  • water harvesting and storage (e.g. grey water systems)
  • construction of public access pathways connecting to Darawank Wetlands, the beach and Tuncurry Skate Park
